Open the Book

Open the Book is an initiative of the Bible Society supporting groups from church communities to tell bible stories in schools in a way that is fun, interactive and memorable.
An ecumenical group meets twice a term in St Oswin's following the midweek Eucharist to rehearse a story which they then tell the following Tuesday in Wylam and Ovingham first schools.
In some ways this is the reverse of the traditional nativity play: instead of children dressing up with tea towels on their heads to tell a bible story for the amusement of adults, Open the Book reverses this. It is the alleged grown ups who dress up to share bible stories with children.
The group is open to and welcomes new members, however, since this is a ministry directed at children participation does require registering with the
Bible Society and being subject to a DBS check. If you would like to know more
