St Mary the Virgin, Ovingham

The tower of St Mary's dates back to ~990 and was built with stones liberated from Hadrian's Wall. As such some stones still have Roman markings on them. The rest of the church was built in stages over the next four centuries.
The engraver Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) was both baptised and buried at St Mary's.
St Mary's is unlocked from morning to evening each day. The precise times do depend on the time of year but 9.30am (ish) to 6.30pm (ish) is a reasonable guide. Please do just wander in spend some time.
Services at St Mary's follow the following pattern:
First Sunday - "Taste and See", 4pm
Second Sunday - Parish Eucharist, 10am
Third Sunday - Lay Led Worship, 10am
Fourth Sunday - Parish Eucharist, 10am
There is an 8am Book of Common Prayer Eucharist on the 1st Sunday of each month.
