Weddings

We are delighted to welcome couples, their families and friends to weddings in our churches.

To marry in one of our churches you do need a Qualifying Connection to the parish.  Qualifying connections are:
  • Lives in the parish
  • Has at any time lived in the parish for more than 6 months
  • Has habitually attended church services in the parish church for more than 6 months
  • Was baptised in the parish
  • Was prepared for confirmation in the parish
  • One of your parents has lived in the parish for at least 6 months after you were born
  • One of your parents has habitually attended church services in the parish for more than 6 months
  • One of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish

If you don't have a qualifying connection yet but would like to form one this can be done through regular attendance at church services.  We will not however 'book' in a date for a wedding until a qualifying connection is established.

If you have already got married in a civil ceremony but would like your marriage to be blessed in church this can be arranged.

Currently we can bless same-sex relationships through the Prayers of Love and Faith.  Such prayers can only currently be offered as part of another regular church service.  We hope and pray that General Synod and the House of Bishops will soon get their act together to allow us to use these prayers as part of a stand alone service.

To enquire about getting weddings or other similar blessings in church contact the relevant member of clergy.
